  • You can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor WSI. You can teach swimming and other Water Safety Courses. As a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) you can also:

    • Teach skills that may save a life.

    • Learn organizational and presentation skills that will help you in any career.
    • Make a difference in peoples lives.

  • 1. 16 years of age or older.
    2. Proficient swimmer with the ability to perform the following strokes for 25 yards each at a Level 4 or better skill level: Level 4 criteria Click Here.
        o Front Crawl.
        o Back Crawl.
        o Sidestroke.
        o Breaststroke.
        o Elementary Backstroke.
        o Butterfly (15 yards).
    3. Float in deep water for one minute; Tread water for one minute.

  • In this course you will learn CPR skills such as:

    1. CPR for Professional Rescuer
    2. Adult Child Infant CPR.
    3. Two rescuer CPR.
    4. Use of an AED.
    5. Dealing with Conscious &Unconscious Chocking Victims.
    6. Rescue Breathing.
    7. Use of BVM.


  • To become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor WSI, candidates must become completely familiar with all course materials which will be presented in class. The Water Safety Instructor W.S.I candidates will be awarded with WSI after successfully complete all practice teaching assignments and score at least 80% on the final written test (40 correct out of 50 multiple-choice questions). There will be no option to repeat assignments or the final written test. Payment of the course fee is not a guarantee of certification on W.S.I.

  • 1. Be present for the entire course.
    2. Successfully complete all required skills.
    3. Pass a multiple choice written exam at 80% or better.

  • 1. Dress comfortably; CPR skills are practiced on the floor in a kneeling position.
    2. The class involves a lot of moving around during classroom work and typically there will be a pool sessions per day.
    3. Participants must bring a swimsuit and towels each day.
